In the past 5 years, the translation of training load research to practice has occurred more rapidly than ever before. This research has led practitioners to search for the ideal training variable (or metric) to use when progressing training loads. The acute: chronic workload ratio (ACWR) is one such variable that has assisted sports medicine personnel to safely progress athlete workloads during rehabilitation, return from off-season and mid-season breaks, and when preparing for peak performance. However, effective training for patients and athletes involves more than progressive overload – it requires a thorough understanding of other well- established training principles (e.g. specificity, individuality, recovery, variation, reversibility). In this webinar, Tim will discuss the integration of training principles in practice and how sports medicine staff can move beyond “metrics” to develop effective training programs.
